Astronomy Friday 01: The Orion Nebula - The Birth of Stars
INTRODUCTION - Watch this video about the Orion Nebula (2:17). - Listen to instructions about the remaining activities to complete. - Begin work at one Station, and move from Station to Station when complete.
STATION 1 - Read through the provided handouts, and highlight important information. Keep these handouts for reference.
STATION 3 - Use a computer workstation (and page 4 of the handouts) to study the information about infrared observing of Nebula. Watch some of these videos for details about the SOFIA system.
STATION 4 - Go to the Appendix of your handout (labeled page 10) - the February Star Map to locate ORION, then identify the location of the ORION NEBULA. - Use a computer workstation, and then click here to find out how to read a star map.
STATION 5 - Use a computer workstation (and the handouts on Stellar Life Cycles Kinesthetic Activity), and attempt to act out each step of the Small/Medium and Large Star Life Cycle (as demonstrated here Stellar Life Cycle of a Small Star, and Stellar Life Cycle of a Large Star.)
