2.0 Jigsaw Discussion - Conception to Birth Webquest
Description:
In this activity you will work with other students from different groups to learn about the various stages of pregnancy.
Your group will send a representative to a station where they will become an expert on a certain stage of pregnancy. The five stages to discuss are: ovulation, fertilization, cleavage, blastocyst and implantation. You will also have a representative look at the first, second and third trimesters of pregnancy, discovering key development the fetus undergoes during these stages.
Procedure:
1. Your group must join up with another group. Try to form a big group of 8.
2. Give each person a number between 1 and 8.
3. After you are numbered, join a new group with all the same numbers.
4. Each new group is now in charge of researching all the information they can on their topic. (Group 1 Ovulation, Group 2 Fertilization, Group 3 Cleavage, Group 4 Blastocyst, Group 5 Implantation, Group 6 First Trimester, Group 7 Second Trimester, Group 8 Third Trimester). Information you should obtain includes a diagram and at least 3-5 main characteristics of the stage or trimester.
5. Start your research on page 91 of the textbook. Once all the information has been obtained, report back to your main group.
6. At your original group, go over all eight topics in sequence, making sure everyone has a chance to take down some notes on each.
7. As a group, write a short blog post including your activity notes and thoughts about the activity process.
